Within Christendom there is an abandonment theory concerning who Israel are and, whether they are relevant to salvation today. This is quite unfortunate, because this is definitely not promoted in scriptures.
Some of the popular things that you may hear the ill-informed Christian say is, that the ‘Jews (Israelites) foresook Christ, so now salvation is the for every nation instead‘. This statement and thought is a catalyst for a lot of the errors we see in Christendom.
The first thing to highlight is that this statement, has no biblical substance, as there was never a time that other nations of people were totally excluded from worshiping the God of Israel. In fact Job himself was not an Israelite and there is a whole book dedicated to him and his righteousness.
Here is the most common scripture used to validate the claim that the scriptures and all the laws are for the whole world now, rather than for Israel first then the other nations:
46Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
…after reading this it is easy for the unlearned believer to believe that salvation is now for the Gentiles (other nations), but is this what Paul and Barnabas are really saying? and do they even have the authority to make salvation for every other nation instead, equally as it was given to Israel? The answer is NO, to both questions, and this certainly is not what they are saying.
If we read this in perspective, this is just an account of Paul and Barnabas during their missionary work, where they had encountered some stiff necked Israelite’s. The reader, must also keep in mind that this was just an isolated statement, and not some kind of Law or new doctrine being set.
What is true though, is that the Scriptures and the Good news is accessible to all Nations, as Paul eloquently puts it here:
47For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
As stated early the Gentiles always had a place which can also be seen in the Previous scripture, Isaiah was given the same calling by YHWH:
And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.
As Christ is the author and finisher of our Salvation let us look at how he dealt with Samaritan Gentile lady, at a well:
21Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Here Christ, tells the lady that a time will come when everyone will worship YHWH in spirit and truth, and also they she will no longer worship at Jerusalem. This is talking about the destruction of the 2nd temple that took place in 70AD.
But what is important to note is that the Christ says before this that “salvation is of the Jews (Israel)“.
So now we are clear that there was always a place for other nations to follow the God of Israel, and that the Jews play a huge factor in salvation, let’s look at who Israel are according to scripture prophecies shall we?
